Ed is a senior solicitor in Harper James’ commercial team, specialising in IT, technology and intellectual property. He qualified as a solicitor in 2017 and helps growth-focused businesses navigate the contracts and legal issues that underpin their technology, products and commercial relationships.
Ed takes time to understand how his clients’ businesses and technology work, getting under the bonnet of their operations so he can identify the risks that matter and provide advice that is commercially relevant and practical.
His specialisms include:
- software development agreements
- SaaS and on-premise software agreements
- managed IT services contracts
- reseller and distribution agreements
- complex data sharing agreements
- international trade mark licences
- image rights agreements
- wider technology and intellectual property contracts
Ed brings a strong understanding of emerging and innovative technology. He began his legal career as a paralegal in Harrison Clark Rickerbys’ IP and technology team before training and qualifying with the firm. From the outset, he worked with businesses developing and using new technologies where the legal, technical and commercial landscape was often evolving alongside the technology itself.
That experience has shaped Ed’s approach to commercial law. He enjoys taking complex legal concepts and translating them into clear, practical advice, helping clients understand their options and find creative solutions to the challenges they face.
Ed also has experience advising on image rights arrangements for social media influencers, television personalities and athletes, alongside his wider technology and intellectual property work.
“The real satisfaction comes from taking complex legal concepts and explaining them in a clear and digestible way that is relevant to the client, while finding creative solutions to the challenges they face.”
Away from work, Ed is a keen football fan and enjoys contemporary art and film.
