Julia is a senior commercial lawyer who works with businesses of all sizes, from start-ups to multi-national groups across many different sectors (B2B and B2C). She has considerable breadth and depth of experience gained while working in-house and in private practice over the last 18 years. She advises on an extensive range of commercial agreements, as well as on related IP and data protection issues.

Before joining Harper James, Julia worked as a legal consultant in the role of Partner and Head of Commercial at an early-stage London law firm.
I was heavily involved in the day to day operations of the firm (including looking after marketing, driving business development, and supporting other operational matters).
‘I have first-hand experience of the challenges of running a scaling business, which means I can bring another perspective to my advice. My legal work typically included working with early-stage businesses and scaling businesses alongside the client’s CFO/COO or small legal team to provide advice across all manner of commercial projects. I also acted as a ‘virtual General Counsel’ for a several clients, roles which I particularly enjoyed.
Julia also has many years' experience working in-house for businesses, including TJX Inc (TK Maxx), Centrica PLC, Morgan Advanced Materials PLC and Premier Foods PLC. In these roles, Julia helped the businesses to achieve their strategic goals, providing general commercial advice in both a B-B and B-C context, in addition to advising on technology and IT contracts, IP, and marketing.
I understand that each client has its own priorities, and pinch-points. I enjoy exploring a client’s objectives and goals, so that I can tailor my advice to help them achieve them, and clients value my down to earth approach and my dislike of legalese.
Outside of work, I love being out in nature and enjoy hiking, swimming, cycling and running.
