Luke is an experienced commercial solicitor, bringing extensive knowledge of the kind of legal support different types of organisations need. He has spent the majority of his career-to-date supporting brand partnerships, licensing, marketing and digital activities, punctuated with spells working in start-up and scale-up environments in the technology, media production and subscription platform sectors.
“Having exclusively worked in-house before joining Harper James, I have gained a relatively unique understanding of what commercial clients value in a lawyer. Technical expertise is a given, but at least as important is the ability to quickly tune in to an organisation’s strategy and values. This leads to targeted, solution-oriented legal advice which enables rather than confuses”.
Luke has significant experience helping organisations to develop, implement and hone their business models and brands, offering sound and pragmatic legal advice to help foster sustainable and risk-mitigated growth. He is comfortable advising on, drafting and negotiating a wide range of complex (international) and business-critical agreements across a variety of areas, including:
- brand and content licensing;
- brand partnerships, image rights and endorsement;
- marketing, events and activations;
- e-commerce and marketplaces;
- technology;
- manufacturing;
- agency, franchise and distribution models;
- professional services and procurement; and
- warehousing and logistics.
Above all, for Luke, legal practice is about people and fostering relationships. He always turns up with a smile and has made it something of his life’s mission to prevent clients and stakeholders from dreading interactions with ‘the lawyers’!
When the laptop is closed, Luke can usually be found running or hiking in the South Downs (or in a pub along the route). He is an avid Newcastle United supporter, despite growing up near Brighton, and is a keen traveller.
