Sean is a senior solicitor in Harper James’ employment team who helps businesses manage complex people issues with practical, commercially focused advice.
He qualified as a solicitor in 2009 and joined Harper James in 2016, having previously worked in the employment team of a leading national law firm ranked Tier 1 in the Legal 500.
Before moving into law, Sean worked in management within the manufacturing sector. That first-hand commercial experience gives him a strong understanding of the pressures employers face and helps him provide advice that works in practice as well as from a legal perspective.
Sean advises on:
- TUPE and outsourcing
- complex restructures
- changes to terms and conditions
- redundancy programmes
- employment contracts
- complex disciplinary and grievance procedures
- equality and discrimination claims
- performance management
- employee exits and post-termination restrictions
Sean has advised employers ranging from start-ups and owner-managed businesses to large multinational organisations and PLCs. He is used to quickly getting to grips with complex situations, identifying what matters most and explaining the options in clear, straightforward language.
His approach is pragmatic, commercial and approachable. Drawing on both his legal and management experience, Sean helps clients balance employment law requirements with the realities of running a business and managing people.
Outside work, Sean enjoys road cycling, keeping fit and camping.
“Having worked in management before becoming a lawyer, I bring commercial know-how, experience and empathy to the advice I give. Employment law is constantly changing, which keeps the work challenging and varied, but my focus is always on helping clients find a practical way forward.”
