Senior Dispute Resolution Solicitor

Get in touch

Samantha is a senior dispute resolution solicitor who joined Harper James in June 2024.

Samantha qualified as a solicitor in 2003. She provides advice on a broad range of contractual and tortious commercial disputes, disputes arising from corporate transactions (including shareholder disputes and disputes with directors, warranty and indemnity claims and completion account disputes), joint venture and partnership disputes, restrictive covenant and business protection claims, professional negligence claims, and contentious trusts and probate matters.

Samantha has worked with clients across a wide range of sectors including manufacturing, information technology, recruitment, film and media, food and hospitality, pharmaceuticals, education, and property development.

She also has significant experience working with charities and trustees, and in pensions disputes. Samantha is a full member of ACTAPS and a member of the Professional Negligence Lawyers Association.

The key to advising clients in disputes is understanding their commercial objectives and finding the most direct route to achieving the desired outcomes to enable them to move forward and focus on their businesses. With over twenty years of experience, I appreciate that busy clients need timely and practical advice by engaging with what really matters to them, analysing the merits of the case with that in mind, and advising pragmatically on the commercial realities and cost/benefit analyses of pursuing the various options.

Samantha is known for her diligence, and her calm and focussed manner in reassuring clients that they are in capable hands.

Some of her key cases include:

  • Acting for the defendant and counterclaimant in a joint venture dispute relating to a long-standing property development venture involving an account and inquiry and claim for damages.
  • Acting for an employer and pension scheme in pursuing a claim against their former administrators for negligence and breaches of contract.
  • Acting on behalf of an individual defendant in a claim against him as a former employee for breaches of contract and fiduciary duties.
  • Advising a large international company in relation to the termination at will of a multi-million pound contract by the other party and the calculation of sums due on termination under the terms of the contract.
  • Acting for trustees in respect of errors identified in a trust deed which led to the inadvertent transfer of assets, and the subsequent actions to rectify the errors and to pursue negligence claims against the solicitors involved.

Samantha trained and qualified as a solicitor at Hammonds LLP where she remained until 2009. She has since worked at regional commercial practices, Lee & Priestley LLP and 3volution Limited (where she was a partner from 2018), and she subsequently joined Addleshaw Goddard LLP as a Legal Director.

Samantha lives in Yorkshire and is married with two sons. She enjoys spending time with her family in the Yorkshire countryside and taking care of her four Ragdoll cats.

The Legal 500  ranks Samantha as a next generation partner. Chambers & Partners ranks Samantha as Band 3 in Litigation in Yorkshire and records that 'Samantha is very diligent and thorough, while also imaginative in her responses and problem solving'.
