Where are you based?
We have offices in Birmingham, Cambridge, London, Manchester, Oxford, Sheffield, Southampton and Cardiff, and have lawyers based nationwide, helping clients across the UK and internationally.
What types of instructions do you handle?
We’re a full service commercial law firm, which means we provide all manners of business legal services for our clients. We deal with commercial law in England and Wales but we can liaise with other jurisdictions.

How long have you been in business?
We were established Harper James in 2014 as the start-up law firm built for start-ups and entrepreneurial businesses by our Founder & CEO Toby Harper. Read more on our founding story.
Do I need to visit you at one of your offices?
Not at all. We’re more than happy to come to you, or arrange a meeting at a location of your choice. We can also contact you via Teams, Skype or on the phone, it’s up to you. To book an initial consultation to discuss your requirements, with no obligation, contact us online and we’ll get back to you.
Can you take over from my current lawyers?
Yes of course, please contact us so we can explain how to go about this. It’s a much simpler process than you might think and we’ll take care of the formalities for you.
What are your business hours?
Our office hours are Monday to Friday, 9am – 5.30pm. However, we’re committed to returning calls within 24 hours or less, so please feel free to contact us outside of these hours and we’ll get back to you.

Can I choose my own lawyer?
We will always try to accommodate any specific requests, but we can’t always guarantee the availability of a particular lawyer. However, our Extend clients will always have access to a dedicated panel of lawyers with full account management.
For our other pricing packages, we do promise you’ll only ever have a solicitor that is an expert in the field of law that you require working with you. Our people are at the heart of everything we do and each have many years of valuable experience in helping business owners by providing expert legal advice and representation.

Our service plans
Which is the right plan for me?
We currently operate via three service plans:
Engage – As an alternative to our subscription offerings, our Engage plan offers businesses immediate access to legal expertise on a project-by-project basis.
Enable – Designed specifically to support the needs of start-ups and smaller businesses, joining our Enable plan will give you fast access to highly experienced solicitors at a fraction of the cost of traditional law firms.
Extend – A fully account managed legal support service giving you priority access to highly experienced solicitors, whenever you need them, at a budget set by you.

I don’t want to set up a regular monthly payment – can I just pay by the hour?
Yes – our Engage service plan is designed for any one-off instruction you have, without incurring a regular monthly cost.
Is there a minimum term to the Enable plan?
Yes, this is a 12 month rolling contract.
How can you afford to provide a city grade of service at these prices?
- We operate with low overheads, meaning we can pass on significant cost savings to our clients
- Our cashflow model is efficient, meaning we can collect fees by direct debit
