Harper James is a growing and ambitious commercial law firm like no other. Forget any misconceptions you may have about the legal industry, we’re not stuffy or inhibited by traditions.

Founded in 2014, our purpose is as strong now as it was then – to enable growth-oriented businesses to succeed through delivering top-quality and accessible legal services by acting as partners in our clients’ journeys while our people enjoy a true work-life balance.

Harper James continues to grow at c40%+ year on year. This financial year, more than 120 people will support 2,500+ businesses and our turnover will exceed £13m. We expect to double in size over the next 3 years.

Our marketing team plays a pivotal role in this exciting journey and to help us achieve our ambitious growth plans, we’re looking for an experienced and highly motivated Senior Marketing Manager & Communications Lead to join our team. This is a new role, which offers the opportunity for someone to create a real impact and help shape and deliver our marketing communications strategy.

Is this role for you?

If you’re someone who is looking to flourish and grow in your next role and you have a track record of delivering great results and having most of what’s below, we would love to explore how you could achieve great things with us here at Harper James.

You’ll ideally have:

  • 10+ years’ experience in developing and delivering effective multi-channel marketing and communications strategies within a B2B legal or professional services environment.
  • A professional marketing qualification at degree or post graduate level (ideal but not essential).
  • Excellent written (editorial level) and verbal communication skills – and a real passion for creating content that engages both internal and external audiences.
  • A team player mentality with a proven ability to work collaboratively and effectively with colleagues, cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Strong demonstrable experience of executing digital marketing campaigns, including the use of digital content, SEO, social media, paid search and retargeting tactics.
  • Great analytical skills and experience in interpreting data and trends to help drive marketing decisions.
  • An entrepreneurial spirit and a self-starter mindset – with a strong desire to explore new and creative marketing tactics that deliver results.
  • Proven organisational and project management skills and experience in managing a variety of projects and internal/external stakeholders to tight deadlines.
  • A strong commercial awareness and interest in current affairs and legal issues that impact businesses.
  • Experience in building and managing strong relationships with external contacts, suppliers and partners.
  • Awareness of your own and your colleagues’ strengths and development needs and a track record of addressing and building on these.
  • Previous experience of working in an environment where marketing efforts are measured and for which you’re held to account.

What you'll do

In this senior role within the team, your main responsibilities will be to:

  • Actively support the Head of Marketing and Senior Marketing Manager & Digital Lead in providing strategic guidance to other members of the marketing team, helping to foster best practice, creativity and innovation.
  • Take a leading role in key firmwide projects – spanning target audience and client campaigns, video and written content production, webinar series, community events, internal communications and CSR etc.
  • Proactively build relationships with key stakeholders within and outside the business to ensure alignment with our ambitious goals and to facilitate collaboration and enhance the overall success of our marketing initiatives.
  • Play a key role in developing and executing our PR and social media strategies, including identifying opportunities through regular press scanning and monitoring industry and business trends.
  • Help build a bank of credentials and take a leading role in coordinating and drafting responses to pitches and tender opportunities.
  • Plan and deliver on the marketing strategy for dedicated practice areas, including identifying key audiences, defining messaging, building campaigns and supporting the production of content including PR, blogs, news, partnership content, client stories, videos, webinars and podcasts etc.
  • Produce, deliver and report on annual marketing plans and prepare monthly progress reports.
  • Actively leverage HubSpot, our CRM system, and other analytics data for insights with a view to test, identify opportunities, introduce improvements and report on RoI.
  • Act as a line manager for one or more members of the marketing team and play a key role within the team by making valuable contributions and giving timely and constructive feedback to encourage personal and career development of others.
  • Manage relationships and budgets with relevant third-party content writers, partners, suppliers and agencies.
  • Monitor our competitive landscape and target markets to identify opportunities for growth and help develop innovative products and services and secure new collaborations and partnerships.
