Before establishing the firm in 2014, our Founder and CEO Toby Harper worked in-house for a well-known venture capital firm, where he saw first-hand the barriers start-ups and growing businesses faced in accessing quality legal advice, which led him to set up Harper James.
We aspire to disrupt the model for which legal services are provided to businesses. Regularly referred to as ‘The Netflix of the legal world’, our innovative remote working and subscription model approach to delivering highly tailored, affordable and accessible legal advice is considered genuinely different to the establishment.
Harper James is in its 8th year and hitting a £6m turnover, which we have plans to triple by 2025. Getting in the right talent to support our growth – and theirs – is a key part of our strategy.
The majority of solicitors at Harper James work remotely but have access to meeting space in Birmingham, Cambridge, London, Manchester, Oxford and Sheffield.

Please note: we are unable to offer work experience placements to students because most of our solicitors work remotely.
Our commercial lawyers are based in or close to major cities across the UK, providing expert legal advice to clients both locally and nationally.
We mainly work remotely, so we can work with you wherever you are. But we can arrange face-to-face meeting at our offices or a location of your choosing.
