Dominic Reilly

Contentious Intellectual Property Solicitor

Get in touch

Dominic joined Harper James in October 2024 as a contentious intellectual property solicitor and assists clients on a broad range of contentious IP matters, advising them on the enforcement of their rights including trade marks, passing off, design rights, copyright and patents.

Dominic has an intellectual property background and has previously worked on both contentious and non-contentious matters. In particular, he has experience in trade mark prosecution and litigation, as well as the commercial aspects of the transfer of IP rights in the context of mergers and acquisitions. Dominic has also assisted clients with the protection of their brands online, including on major tech platforms, and has also worked on design right disputes and Protected Designation of Origin matters.

Dominic previously worked at a leading patent litigation firm, assisting with technically complex multi-jurisdictional patent disputes in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, electronic and telecommunications industries as part of its tier 1 patent litigation team.

Dominic completed his training contract with Thomson Snell & Passmore and qualified in March 2024. He undertook seats in the Dispute Resolution, Corporate & Commercial, Real Estate and Family departments assisting with a range of commercial disputes, acquisitions, commercial property transactions and financial and children matters.

I am passionate about intellectual property and the crucial role it plays in fostering the creativity and innovation that has made some of the most exciting advances of recent times possible, from artificial intelligence and augmented reality to sustainable green technology. Protecting and enforcing clients’ IP rights gives them the cover they need to focus on their work, and the services and technologies that will shape and define the years to come.

Dominic studied Law at the University of Sussex and completed his Legal Practice Course at the University of Law, Moorgate.

After a previous career as a professional musician, Dominic continues to enjoy playing the drums in his spare time. He is also a keen snowboarder and follows football and Formula 1, as well as keeping up with the world of politics.
