Get in touch

Abdi is a Commercial Property Development Partner at Harper James and he has over 12 years experience as a solicitor having qualified in 2012.

Abdi advises clients on the acquisition, development and disposal of development land. This includes reviewing and advising on heads of terms, carrying out title investigations, reviewing and reporting on the benefit or burden of rights and helping clients to understand and manage the risks associated with the land. Once a site has been acquired, Abdi supports clients with the various section agreement and ancillary documents needed to facilitate the development of the land through to the eventual sale or desired exit strategy.

Abdi joins Harper James from Tinsdills Solicitors where he has spent the entire 16 years of his legal career to date from paralegal, solicitor to shareholder and where he headed up both the commercial property department and Newcastle under Lyme regional office. Abdi has particular experience of acting and advising on different acquisition and disposal strategies including option agreements, conditional contracts and back-to-back deals.

My extensive experience in acting for both landowners and developers helps me to understand the needs and practical risks on both sides of the transaction. This enables me to take a balanced approach and to find pragmatic solutions to get the deal done. I take pride in providing timely, practical and tailored advice in an easy to understand way.

Examples of his work include:

  • Advising on the back-to-back acquisition and sale of a former brownfield site to facilitate a multimillion-pound scheme to deliver private rental homes.
  • Advising on the acquisition and sale of land which had been compulsory purchased to facilitate the delivery of a medium sized mixed tenure development.
  • Investigating and obtaining the removal of a restrictive covenant which would have otherwise, if enforced, blighted development.
  • Acting on the acquisitions, site setup and onward plot sales of numerous residential development sites.

Outside of work, Abdi lives with his wife and our 4 young children (all boys!) The majority of his spare time revolves around the children either attending parties, swimming lessons or grass roots cricket and football training/matches. Abdi likes to stay fit by running and enjoys both playing and watching football, he is also an avid Port Vale supporter.
