The Employment Rights Act – a roadmap for SMEs

The Employment Rights Act – a roadmap for SMEs
Tuesday 10 March 2026
12:30 pm - 1:00pm

The Employment Rights Act 2025 brings some big changes for employers, with key reforms rolling out between now and January 2027.

In this short, 30-minute webinar, we’ll give you a clear, high-level update on where things stand, what’s confirmed, what’s still taking shape, and what employers should be thinking about now.

The session will help you work out which changes matter most for your business, what you’ll need to tackle in the near future, and how to sensibly prioritise everything else. It’s not a step-by-step action plan, but a practical overview to help you plan with confidence.

We’ll also look briefly at why compliance matters beyond HR, including the impact on cost, governance and stakeholder confidence.

Sally Gwilliam and Helen Dyke will talk through the changes in plain English, with time for questions at the end.

What we’ll cover

  • Where we are now – what has already changed and what that means for employers
  • What’s coming in 2026, including:
    • April 2026 changes to statutory sick pay, day one family and parental leave rights, collective redundancy rules, and the creation of the Fair Work Agency
    • Autumn 2026 reforms affecting fire and rehire practices, third-party harassment, and extended employment tribunal time limits
  • Looking ahead to January 2027, including unfair dismissal protection reducing to six months’ service
  • What is still taking shape, such as zero hours reforms and other expected measures
  • How to assess risk and prioritise next steps for your business

Why attend

This session will help you to:

  • Understand the key known and expected changes under the Employment Rights Act
  • Focus on the changes that need attention in the near term versus those that can be monitored
  • Reduce the risk of being caught out as reforms are phased in

You will leave with a clearer picture of the roadmap and how to approach planning in a proportionate, commercially sensible way.
