Thomas Mould

Tom qualified as a solicitor at a boutique IP practice in 2016 then worked at an international law firm before joining Harper James in 2022. He advises on both contentious and non-contentious intellectual property matters.

Tom has a particular interest in software and IT disputes. His understanding of information technology means he can quickly gather and present evidence in High Court software copyright cases. He also excels in understanding the complex interactions between intellectual property law and the technical processes involved in the audio-visual industries, in particular photography and film.

I have a particular interest in software and technology, which helps when I'm advising clients who are involved in a software-related dispute or matters involving a technical product.

Tom is a well-established trade mark and registered design practitioner before the UKIPO and WIPO, handling applications and also oppositions, revocations and invalidity actions before the Trade Mark Tribunal and the Registered Design Tribunal. He has managed a number of international IP portfolios including a 900-mark portfolio for a world leader in shisha tobacco products and is skilled in advising on international trade mark strategy.

My approach is to learn as much as I can about their specific business, goals, and working style. This allows me to provide clients with tailored advice that aligns with their objectives.

Tom also assists clients with IP related agreements such as IP assignments, IP licences, collaboration agreements, R&D agreements, influencer agreements, and confidentiality agreements.

As well as court and tribunal work, Tom enjoys representing clients in domain name disputes before NOMINET and WIPO. Recent successes include the defence of a photography brand. You can read about the decision here.
